Whitton Island (Humber) Circumnavigation
This little trip has been on my 'to do' list for some time. Plenty of tide assist and a total distance of 19 Nautical Miles ( 36kms )
Whitton Island is an island situated at the western end of the Humber Estuary in northern England.
The almond-shaped island straddles the county boundary between the counties of East Riding of Yorkshire to the north and North Lincolnshire which otherwise runs over tidal water roughly along the centre line of the estuary. Parts of the island fall within the boundaries of four civil parishes.
Only in recent years has the island emerged sufficiently from the mud and sand bank known as Whitton Sand to be mapped by the Ordnance Survey as a new feature. Whitton Sands forms a part of the Humber Wildfowl Refuge.
Whitton Island is owned by Associated British Ports. In March 2017 the RSPB signed a 50-year lease on the island to manage it as a Nature Reserve.

Jura Exped
7 days and 170 kilometres covered on this amazing expedition around Jura, taking in the Garvellachs, Scaba and Islay. Paddling some of the most challenging waters of the Western Isles including Grey Dogs, The Corryvreckan and the Doris Mor. We wild camped on remote and beautiful beaches carrying everything we needed in our boats, a truly wild and amazing adventure.

The Menai Straits
A simple but fun day on this favourite piece of water to celebrate Rods 70th, neap tides so not a great deal happening but we made the most of every little wave and every eddy line. Great fun and lovely company.

A Trip on the Navigation
A day introducing Martin to solo canoeing - I think we are well on the way to making a very able canoeist. Maddy the dog did everything she could to throw a spanner in the works but Martin coped very well with the K9 ballast - well until the very end but we won't mention too much about that - he he...
The rest of us enjoyed a lovely journey and as normal there was a pub involved...

A Simple & Short Trip to the Pub
Sometimes it doesn't matter how far you go, you don't always need white, dynamic, technical or even big water. Sometimes its just about people in boats having fun. Big thanks to Tony for paddling me about while I took photos.

Humber by Sea Kayak
So its that time of year again that I like to kick start the season with a couple of decent long journeys under my belt.
From Paull to Kilnsea is a big journey but launching access at Paull has become very difficult of late due to the new flood defences.
Easier access but a way longer trip option is to launch from the Humber Bridge. Though with only five hours ebb to get to Kilnsea and a distance of 34 miles (55km's) it can be difficult to find company to join me on this stupidly long and soul destroying trip that usually means pushing against tide up the coast along the outside of Spurn.
All the usual old sea dogs are away paddling seas afar and on courses, so who could I convince to come paddle with me for 6 hours over such a distance with no breaks?
Bring on Liz Thomas...
Give her due respect (and we don't always see eye to eye) she cracked on and actually gave me a run for my money with very little complaint, hats off to you Liz and well done. This was a hardcore trip that very few local dedicated sea paddlers have had the balls to complete.... respect.

Filey to Old Horse Rock
After our failed launch onto the Humber due to mist and fog we headed up the coast with no real plan. A quick check of the tides and we settled on this little gem. The Brigg was lifting well with the last of the ebb but quite settled on our return. Fiona did amazing, so proud, she is still suffering with an arm injury from recent surgery but she battled on and kicked ass...

Bempton in the Sunshine
Who would have believed it was the middle of February? Warm in the sun, the sea was clearing out and totally flat, more like May. A lovely day with really nice company. Thank you for the company today Dave, Claire and Jayne.

Wilfholme Landing
A steady little journey to Hempholme Lock. The sun was shining and the air was still. I'd took lots of spare clothing in case of incidents and swims but most had to take a layer or two off as it was so warm in the sunshine..
