KKC Beverley Beck Litter Pick

So humbled to be a part of this today. Thank You, Thank You...Thank you to every one of you who assisted this morning. You all worked so hard and the Beverley Beck is a cleaner place due to your commitment to improving the environment. Even the morning drizzle didn't dampen your spirits but it was so nice when the sun did eventually shine - even if only for a brief moment. We collected over 10 black sacks of rubbish, all of which where then taken to Weel Recycling Centre and recycled correctly. Again, well done to every one of you who assisted today, a big Thank You to all our paddlers and of course to our walking collectors too.

Cala en Porter - Canutells via Cales Coves - Menorca

A last minute decision to paddle and after just pointing a finger at the map we headed to Porter. And what a journey it turned out to be. Really warm but with just a smidget of cloud cover taking the harshness out of the sun and very little boat traffic, this turned out to be one of the most memorable trips yet - oh and the up-lit blue cave was just the icing on the cake...

Cala Morell to Cala de' Algaiarens - Menorca

Maybe our last chance of a paddle on the north coast as the winds and seas are blowing up a little tomorrow. Cala Morell is an intriguing natural L shaped harbour. About 12km covered with a visit to another remote beach. This coastline is amazing and just keeps on giving... We finished with a pleasant hour snorkelling, it was like a tropical fish tank down there...

Thursday 23 August 2018

Circumnavigation of Cap de Cavalleria, Menorca

Menorcas biggest headland protruding out from the north coast. Probably quite a hostile place when the forecast is less than perfect but today's weather was so benign the only hazard was the constant barrage of motorised craft... Eight kilometres of great fun.... Amazing to see a pair of huge birds on the headland - Egyptian Vultures as far as we can gather..

Menorca - Bay of Fornells

Today we simply carried the boards down to the inland sea just 100 metres from our door, Here we slowly worked our way out onto the north coast and had fun discovering the coastline including many caves. Very hot so frequent dips in the sea were necessary. About 15 km covered which is more than enough on SUP boards.. Very proud of Anthony who stayed on his feet in some of the biggest boat washes we've ever experienced - even surfing some of them.... Fiona did good too..

Menorca Day 1

A bit of a slow morning but then we loaded the boards and headed to the south coast due to the northerly Mistral winds. A simple paddle from Sant Tomas towards Cala Galdana taking in several small coves.. We had to stay close in as the off shore winds where quite strong. Nice to explore the caves and coves.

Humber

A very benign and still day on the Humber. Chris is a very experienced sea paddler and has paddled all over the UK and beyond but never paddled this home water. It was great to fulfil that ambition for him today. Plan was to circumnavigate Reeds Island but with only a 5.9 metre tide and being delayed very slightly at the South Ferriby pub we had to turn back and cross the river east of the island. In fairness I think the sands have shifted and it had nothing to do with the second pint of Moretti... Chris, lovely to spend the day with you mate..

KKC Sea SUP Trip- Flamborough Head

With so many club members away on holiday and a settled forecast we thought we would mix it up a little by leaving the sea boats at home and inflate the SUPs . An amazing day, big seas caused by wind against tide in the morning, large over falls but flattened off over slack. Big respect to Emily and Wilson, our younger paddlers who did us proud today

Wednesday 30 May 2018

Staffa from Iona Sound

Another amazing day, a 10km open crossing and Anthony was a super star. I think we broke him but what an achievement...

Monday 28 May 2018

Iona - Anthony excels on this challenging journey

Circumnavigation of this beautiful island, lumpy and challenging at the south end, Atlantic swell making its presence known.. Then a journey back down the sound with an entourage of dolphins.... Anthony did amazing..

Paddle to the Pub

Cannot think of a better way to spend a Bank Holiday Sunday than this. A great bunch of folk and a lovely chilled day..

Saturday 5 May 2018

South Landing to Hunmanby Gap

With an excellent forecast and an invite to do this classic long trip by some Scarborough friends I made the decision to invite some of our older youth paddlers to join us. A brilliant and wonderful day was had by all that attended - although I think there was some very shattered teenagers this afternoon..

Sunday 29 April 2018

Driffield Navigational Canal Spring Clean

Words fail me for what I witnessed today... A group of paddlers - Stand Up Paddle Boarders, canoeist and kayakers from many of our regions clubs and independant paddlers too...coming together for one purpose - to clean this special waterway of all litter and plastic. It was an intense day of very hard work, this stretch of the Driffield Navigation has always been a bit of a mess due to it close proximity to the town and the main road heading east. But as i brought up the rear on our return journey I have never ever seen it so spotless and devoid of bottles and litter. It was not until I landed back at the head did it really come apparent to just how much rubbish we had collected - over 25 black sacks of bottles and waste... Every person on the river today has given up their day to work so hard and to really make a difference to this unique and beautiful environment,,, Thank you all so very, very much...

Yorkshire Sea Paddlers - Trip 2

With a forecast that suggested stiffening winds from the WSW and the possibility of spring squalls we launched from South Bay, Scarborough and hand railed tight along the coastline heading down towards Cornelian, Cayton and finally to our lunch spot at the Wyke opposite Old Horse Rock. Winds picked up and hit us from surprising directions but with a group of strong paddlers we punched into it with ease back across Cayton Bay. A most excellent day with some very lovely people. Lets hope for a lot more days like this with the Yorkshire Sea Paddlers.. Big thanks to those that joined us today.
