Canoes on the River on a Very Cold Day

A couple of hours in the open boats. It was a bit nippy but once on the move we kept warm. Wilfholme Landing to Hempholme Lock & return, a nice easy 8kms.

Wansford to West Beck and Back

A journey in the canoes today. Our aim was to stay warm, enjoy the sunshine and possible fish for a pike. We achieved one and two, rest assured the pike where safe today, just one follow of my big pike fly. We put in at the Trout Inn Wansford, down passed Snakeholm lock, Brigham and on down the main river to the confluence with West Beck. The return journey against flow and wind took a little more effort.

A November Mooch Up the River

A simple mooch up the river in the sunshine this afternoon. No rods today, the river was just too coloured for lures or flies..

Beverley to Wansford by Canoe

We were feeling the need to really stretch our legs and burn a few calories today. A strong southerly breeze suggested a one way trip, a bit of a faff setting up a shuttle but we left a vehicle at Wansford and eventually launched the canoes at my work, Beverley shipyard. We had all the weather but ultimately a following wind for the whole journey. Even time to fish on the way. Twenty plus kilometres and feeling good for completing this simple local adventure....

A Bit of Canoe Fishing

Combining two of my loves on a very misty and cold day today, a bit of canoeing and a little fishing (canishing of fishnoeing, I'm not sure what I prefer), who said canoeists and anglers cannot get on. Met several anglers on the river, they're all really friendly when you have rods sticking out the back of your boat... Three fish today, all safely returned..

Post Covid Paddle

Just coming out of 10 days isolation due to the dreaded lurgy it felt brilliant to be back on the water. Fiona and myself took the opens up the river, certainly nothing to push the envelope but just so good to be back out there doing what we do....

Canoes with Rudi

A very cold, wet and windy Saturday morning and this lady insisted on paddling.. Only one thing for it, an A to B journey up the river with the 30mph winds on our backs, Weel to Wilfholme, weapon of choice was always going to be the canoes... A little coaching on the move and Rudi really started to control these boats very well.

Canoe Fishing

A self indulgent day floating with fishing rods, I'd like to say I was angling but the fish count says otherwise...

Canoes on the River

A truly lovely couple of spring like hours on the river this afternoon. There is something just so beautiful and tranquil about journeying in open boats....

Balmy February Weather

A balmy day on the river, canoes being the craft of choice today. Parking at work, Riverview Road, Beverley, up towards the nature reserve and then all the way back down to home, Dunswell.

Canoes in Lovely Light

We both agreed, it was lovely to get back out in the open boats (Canadian Canoes) today. SUPs and sea boats have been taking the forefront recently and these beautiful craft have been pushed to the back somewhat. A simple journey up to High Esk from our works carpark in beautiful winter light.

Summer 2020 - Coaching, Guiding and Generally Having Fun

A summer I don't think any of us will ever forget and not for the right reasons but its not all been bad.  I've been blessed with guiding, coaching and generally having fun on the water with so many amazing and talented people - from the moment lockdown was lifted. I'll not pretend its not been hard work but it has been so rewarding and humbling. I hope we can paddle together again soon and make even more memories. I've tried to include as many of you as possible on this slideshow, if I've left you out then it simply means we had so much fun the camera never came out..

Toyah's First Canoe Trip

A slight break in the weather and a great little opportunity to introduce Toyah to paddlesport. Lovely to have Rudi with us clocking up more miles on her pathway to becoming an established paddler too. Wilfholme to Hempholme & back into a head wind, always a beautiful journey, marsh harriers and barn owls a plenty, sadly no otters today though.
