A Classic Yorkshire Trip

Launching at South Landing a couple of hours before low water we made our way to Flamborough Head. Very turbulent at the headland but it settled the more north we travelled. Lovely to see the birds back at Staple Nook. Then a return journey on the beginning of the flood.

Bridlington Bay

A very nice paddle down into Bridlington for coffee and cake, a little bit of simple small surf fun, out to the Flamborough inner buoy, then back to the landing for lots of rescues, rolling and general tomfoolery. It was needed and it felt good. Cadet Lewis even bought me a beer at the Dog and Duck, Flamborough, nice to return to a beer garden and this is one of our favourites. All in all not a bad day..

A most excellent morning back on the sea - its been a while and it showed. Brilliant group, a bit of tomfoolery playing chicken at Brigg End and then back into the bay for some lovely clean surf. Good to be out with my old mucka Dave Adamson again, the guys a legend. Thanks for the images of yours truly Glenn, I'm usually behind the camera.

Canoes on the River

A truly lovely couple of spring like hours on the river this afternoon. There is something just so beautiful and tranquil about journeying in open boats....

SUPs on the Humber

With a good forecast and suitable tides Rudi and myself launched at the north side of the Humber Bridge and took the flooding tide west towards Brough. With tide assist we made great progress and we achieved a top speed of over 5 knots (10kmh). Reaching Brough at high water we had a mooch around the Haven and then back down with the ebb and a breeze on our backs.

A Downwind Run with Jo

Really nice to have a catch up with Jo this afternoon. A downwind run from Brigham to Wilfholme, just short of 9km. A barn owl showing very well near Hempholme.

Aborted Launch Comes Good

An aborted launch on the Humber this morning, that westerly breeze against the incoming tide had made it quite lumpy and it would have been slow progress so an alternative was needed. Wilfholme northwards, we had nowhere to be so ploughed on all the way to Brigham against flow, the first time we have been here in the current lockdown. A lovely day accompanied by Fiona, lunch on Brigham bridge and then a much more efficient journey back down to the van. 17km covered in all, so nice to meet some lovely paddlers out there making the most of the day too..

Balmy February Weather

A balmy day on the river, canoes being the craft of choice today. Parking at work, Riverview Road, Beverley, up towards the nature reserve and then all the way back down to home, Dunswell.

More Paddling Home

A lovely afternoon to paddle home from work. Accompanied by Fiona, we made good progress in the strong ebb and westerly breeze. An easy get off in the village but it won't be long until the river drops to summer levels and the vegetation starts to take over again.

A Pleasure to Deliver a Little Tuition to Jack and Leia

It was a real pleasure to deliver a session for these two guys, both so keen and enthusiastic. I hope I've sent them on their way to become great empowered SUP paddlers in the their own right, well done guys, great skills.

Sup Tuition for Darren

I had the pleasure of working with Darren recently. This guy is no stranger to paddle boarding or in fact the water. Darren is the helmsman of one of our local RNLI boats - I have so much love, respect and appreciation for these guys. Anyway a brilliant session with lots of rapid progress and all in such a short space of time. I really hope we can do more together in the future.

A Bit of Water Wombling
