Scarborough Club Meet

I met up with a large bunch of paddlers from the Scarborough Club down at North Landing Flamborough on Wednesday evening. This is a group I didn't know very well and consisted of all abilities but mostly fairly new paddlers. It soon became evident that it would be irresponsible to allow some of these paddlers out of the safety of the bay. A small group of proficient paddlers split off from the main group and they went for a journey out of the bay.

This left me with a group looking upon me for encouragement and support. Time to implement a spontaneous, unplanned and dynamic coaching session.

These poor people get very little coaching up at Scarborough and so we started with the fundamentals. With the assistance of Dave and John marking the boundaries we soon had some good forward paddling skills developing.

What started as a rather worrying scenario turned out to be one of my most favourite of coached sessions, I hope I get the chance to work with these guys again.

Daves Birthday Weekend Pt 2

Sunday morning dawned rather misty but this soon burnt off revealing another lovely day.

We met up with Andy and Fi's parents back down at Boggle Hole. Todays trip was to be just a short one around the bay. First off, we headed down under Ravenscar to see the seal colony.

Sue and Marion enjoyed the view of the colony.

We then headed across the bay and of course back to the obligatory pub in Robin Hoods Bay for lunch.

Daves Birthday Weekend Pt 1

A really pleasant and relaxed weekend up at Scarborough with Dave and Marion.

After a nice BBQ at Daves on the Friday night we decided on a nice simple journey for the Saturday. Putting in at North Bay Scarborough and travelling up the coast, assisted by the big tide and southerly breezes.

A Chilled Journey Under Bempton

It was a breezy Sunday afternoon but with the wind coming from a South Westerly direction we managed to sneak a trip in under the beautiful cliffs of Bempton. Accompanied with Dave, Marion and Fi it turned out to be a lovely chilled out day.

Ant Goes Paddling

Slowly introducing the boy to kayaking, he has been paddling an open boat for a couple of years but its now time to introduce him to closed cockpit boats. It was a sunny afternoon in July so we had a nice short session on the Driffield Canal.

KKC Sea Trip

I organised a days paddling with Kingston Kayak Club so that a few of our members could experience sea paddling. We had a great day of learning, firstly with the all important theory covered on the shore prior to a short trip in Bridlington bay. We covered the basics of tides, weather, trip planning, safety and rescue. An excellent day, Personally I thoroughly enjoyed delivering the coached sessions prior to the guiding the lads down into the bay for tea and coffee and cake.

Runswick Kayak Match

On the second attempt we managed to run a successful competition. It was a lumpy day out from Runswick but the day improved as it progressed.

The match was won by local angler Iain Sellers with a fine cod of just under 9lb.
